D'origine irlando écossaise, elle grandit dans un petit village de pêcheurs prêt d'Aberdeen et se met à écrire des chansons dès l'âge de onze ans. Une fois ses études terminées, elle joue quelques temps dans les bars de la bouillonante cité de Glasgow (d'où sont issus Primal Scream, Belle And Sebastian, Arab Strap, Dogs Die In Hot Cars et tant d'autres), avant de se retirer dans son appartement et d'enregistrer son historique performance. Sa musique contient des influences celtiques, mais évite les clichés radiophoniques des Corrs. Influencée par le folk américain, la pop anglaise et la soul, elle laisse la part belle à l'instrumentation et aux très agréables performances vocales de la chanteuse. On songe à Tori Amos, Sinead O' Connor, Emmylou Harris... bref, à plusieurs générations de chanteuses anticonformistes qui sont su donner une portée universelle à leur oeuvre. Grâce au label Sony (qui a été le plus prompt à se précipiter sur elle!), on peut se procurer son premier album, "Smile... It Confuses People" depuis juin 2006. On lui promet, sans trop se mouiller, un bien bel avenir...
